Leucoderma

Leucoderma is de-pigmentation of the skin marked by characteristic white patches.

Causes:

  • Traumatic incidents
  • Accidental cuts
  • Thermal burns
  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema

Diagnosis and Treatment:

The doctor may take a small sample (biopsy) of the affected skin apart from going for a blood sample.

  • Medicines (such as creams) that you put on the skin
  • Medicines that you take by mouth
  • Surgery
  • A treatment that uses medicine plus ultraviolet A (UVA) light (PUVA)
  • Removing the colour from other areas so they match the white patches
  • Skin grafts from a person’s own tissues
  • Sunscreens
